The legal team at Sanofi’s South Cone operation (based in Buenos Aires but with jurisdiction over Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) is led by Inés Riobó, who is a member of the country council and reports to Sanofi’s head of legal in Latin America. Veronica Aceiro joined in December 2014 and since then, two new members – Florencia Queralto and Camila Fernandez Llorente – have been added to its ranks to reflect the department taking on new internal clients and responsibilities.
The most important change implemented in the last two years, however, was the division and appointment of individual members of the team as primary business partners for each of the company’s various business units and support functions. According to the team’s leader, Inés Riobó, ‘this simplifies communication, project follow-ups, and fosters a sense of ownership of projects by each legal partner’. She elaborates further as follows: ‘In the implementation of this work structure, the specific expertise in different areas (e.g. digital, corporate law, logistics and distribution, pharmaceuticals, antitrust and general commercial), is taken into account and transversal cooperation among team members is ensured, in order to capitalise on technical knowledge that each one can provide to render the most complete services possible’.
The team has consistently impressed with its transactional skills, especially in the review and implementation of recent corporate acquisitions by the Sanofi Group. Over the past few years, Sanofi’s legal department has also brought immense value to the company by supporting the launch of new products, navigating the country’s complex legal and economic scenarios, facilitating various internal corporate reorganisations, enabling the launch of digital apps and participating in cross-functional ad-hoc committees providing advice upon request to CAEME, the trade association grouping multi-national pharmaceutical companies in Argentina.
The Sanofi South Cone legal department supports the business divisions involving pharmaceuticals, specialty care, vaccines, consumer health care and rare diseases, as well as all support functions and the large clinical studies unit.
