The two-person legal team at the Argentine joint venture operation of the multinational food and agribusiness company Simplot, deals with all legal matters faced by the business regionally, providing support to the internal client demands and acting as business partner when it comes to new business opportunities.

Legal manager Clara Mazzeo, who has been with the company for nearly four years, takes charge of more complex matters, such as financing structures, corporate structure and trade union matters, compliance and internal politics. Her recently hired colleague Sofia Canavessi, on the other hand, reviews and coordinates the execution of ongoing business contracts and corporate books, undertakes administrative coordination and handles daily notifications and correspondence. Recent consolidation of Simplot’s business in Argentina has resulted in a deepening and increasing of volume of the legal team’s activities, which is now in the process for supporting the construction of an industrial processing plant in the Mendoza province related to a $100m investment project.

In 2017, the team has made a vital contribution to the commercialisation of pre-fried potatoes and guacamole across Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, and was instrumental in the execution of a syndicated loan as project finance with a group of private and public banks.
