Salt Mobile occupies a large domain in the Swiss telecommunications industry as the third largest Swiss mobile operator with 1.2 million subscribers and a 4G coverage of more than 97%...
Telecommunications services provider Salt Mobile recently successfully rebranded from Orange Switzerland in 2015 after a takeover by Xavier Niel. Helping provide legal support through this time of upheaval, the Salt Mobile legal team structure, led the most senior lawyer in the team Marcel Huber, has been integral to the company maintaining its market share of 18.2% as of 2015. Huber sits on the management structure as chief of corporate affairs and general counsel, ensuring lines of communication between the senior aspects of the business and the legal department are strong. This is very important considering the wide variety of legal and regulatory matters in the telecommunications industry, the business recognising the need to be informed when choosing the most appropriate company strategy. Structural changes have also been a factor of the legal team’s work, Huber having combined the legal and regulatory functions and established a competent, amalgamated team which is recognised as a business enabler through its output. For objective examples of the team adding value, the function have worked on a major spectrum auction in Switzerland in 2012 and are required to lead the legal aspects of major M&A financing projects that are crucial to company coffers.
