Founded in 1933, Turkish Airlines was originally a department of the Ministry of Defence. Today it is the national flag carrier of Turkey and the largest air carrier in the world by number of destinations (excluding regional brands). Led by head legal counsel Ali Uysal, who joined in 2013 from SunExpress, the legal team plays an active role in the shaping of the company. In the past 12 months alone, members of the team have worked on a range of deals including matters relating to the launch of the airline’s Ankara-Rome flights and the signing a frequent flyer program agreement with the Brazilian-based Azul Brazilian Airlines. Turkish Airlines has also been involved in several sponsorship deals in recent years including with UEFA Euro 2016 and a partnership with Warner Bros of which members of the legal team have contributed towards.
