Turkcell is the leading mobile phone operator in Turkey, with its headquarters in Istanbul. It was the first Turkish company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and is also listed on the Istanbul Stock Exchange. Leading the company’s in-house legal function, Serhat Demir joined Turkcell as the executive vice president of legal and regulation in May 2015. He and his team of highly respected lawyers oversee the company’s subsidiaries, which include Lifecell in the Ukraine, BeST in Belarus – the third largest telecoms operator in the country with 1.6 million customers – and Turkcell Europe, which was launched in 2011 and provides services to approximately 400,000 customers through its marketing cooperation with Deutsche Telekom. The team is recognised in this year’s list for having impressed a number of private practice peers over the course of the last two years, with their timely advice and proactive approach to handling all legal matters.
