Stephen Cutler
Senior vice-president and general counsel | JPMorgan Chase
Stephen Cutler has been working for JPMorgan since 2007, and in that time has greatly impressed many observers. ‘He has a tremendous ability to simultaneously focus at a nuanced level on the specific legal issues in front of him’, opines Jonathan Tuttle at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, while pointing out that the challenges facing JPMorgan are considerably greater than most other companies. Alex Demetrief, of GE Capital agrees, saying he is ‘incredibly smart and thoughtful, a real powerhouse’. A crucial factor in his success, perhaps, is the fact he is ‘always willing to consider, to be convinced, and to embrace if warranted, alternative or creative solutions, or even positions that may differ from his original thoughts on a matter’, says Tuttle. As a senior executive at the firm, Cutler’s input is both as lawyer and business leader.
