The Canon Iberia legal team is part of the larger legal team of Canon EMEA, and is considered as a reliable advisor not only locally for Spain and Portugal, but also for wider European matters. The team is led by Miguel Álvarez Prada, Canon Spain corporate counsel and head of legal, who joined the company in March 2018 from international law firm Ashurst . The legal team also has one legal counsel who reports to the corporate counsel, assisted by one legal assistant. In the words of a nominator, ‘the solid performance of the legal team of Canon Spain is based on its flexible and business-enabler approach, as well a close and fluid communication with internal and external clients and the key directors and managers of the company’. The Iberian legal team deals with a broad variety of matters such as commercial agreements, competition, public tenders, corporate matters, M&A, data protection and compliance. For these purposes, the legal team keeps a consistent search for internal improvements that allow the automation of certain proceedings, the collaboration between different business units, and delivery of suitable trainings for relevant employees.
