The legal team of Grupo Trofa Saúde is responsible for the in-house follow up of all legal matters concerning the organisation and affiliated groups and companies, executing all housekeeping legal issues as well as M&A operations and projects. The legal team oversees all areas of the business encompassing healthcare, retail and real estate sectors. The legal team is led by head of legal Pedro Ferraz and two senior legal counsels, three legal counsels and one paralegal. ‘Each member of the team is designated whether according to specific sectors or business and to a specific area of law. With this structure, the quality of the legal work is greatly improved as it is more specialised on an area of law and more directed to the needs of the business’, explains Ferraz. He gives particular praise to the senior legal counsel on his team, Teresa Mota da Silva, who is responsible for the real estate companies and also for corporate and financing housekeeping of all companies within the groups. Ricardo Gaspar Dias is responsible for the retail companies and contributes to complex issues that arise within the healthcare companies. His areas of expertise are corporate and litigation and he is involved in other areas such as public and IP law. In addition, Mota da Silva and Dias are also included in smaller and specific teams that coordinate and execute M&A operations or projects of organic growth. By implementing the aforementioned structure, the legal team has improved the quality of its advice by guaranteeing better technical knowledge and by being closer to the specific needs and characteristics of each sector. The legal team has been exclusively involved in its recent purchase by Grupo Trofa Saúde of shares representative of the company that owns the biggest private hospital in Portugal. ‘I would say the team’s ethos is to guarantee all client’s needs, in accordance with the client’s specific characteristics. This is developed not only by the structure referred above but also with the teams’ will to gather and develop internally all technical knowledge that may be deemed convenient for our clients’, says Ferraz.
