Medtronic Hellas
Medtronic’s Greece-based legal and compliance team directly reports to the company’s senior legal director for the region in Germany and has consistently proved the wisdom of the company’s decision to establish a dedicated in-house team legal presence in early 2018. Rafaela Aslani, who is responsible for the up-and-coming function, recalls that the establishment of the team involved a comprehensive effort to provide it with a solid internal structure: ‘New processes were created, a new communication channel between the business and the legal department was established and, in close collaboration with the rest of the business units of the company, risk areas were identified and improvement actions were taken’. The department has clearly been operating at a high level since its inception, working on a number of critical company projects. ‘Medtronic worldwide implements new business models which transform healthcare with technology and innovation and aim at better patient outcomes. In this framework, the company focuses on value-based healthcare projects which enhance technology to optimise care and provide more value. The legal department was involved in the negotiation and drafting of outcome-based agreements with healthcare organisations as well as agreements regarding integrated health solutions. This new approach to healthcare is innovation-driven and, we believe, can create a new era for healthcare’, Aslani says.
