About

The world’s sixth busiest airport for international traffic, Changi Airport Group (CAG) achieved an impressive milestone in 2017 as it managed over 60 million passenger movements in a calendar year for the first time in its history and successfully opened its fourth passenger terminal. It was also named the best airport in the world for the fifth consecutive year by renowned independent airport and airline consultancy Skytrax, which is emblematic of the high level of attainment that is striven for throughout the airport’s operations. The in-house legal team responsible for CAG, led by senior vice president for legal and company secretary Jessie Loong, has continued this tradition of excellence. In addition to the team’s work on marquee projects, namely ‘multi-billion dollar infrastructure projects’ including terminal and runway projects at Jewel Changi Airport, she also mentions the significant work they have completed towards ‘investments in airport-related systems and services’ and ‘the continued expansion of CAG’s various businesses in Southeast and North Asia’. Loong stresses that she runs a ‘a highly talented department’ in order to take on these projects, and picks out a number of team members for special mention due to their specialist expertise in certain areas: ‘Fiona Ng leads the airport operations and regulatory practice, while Edward Lam leads the construction, insurance and investigation practice. Alongside them, Daryl You is the legal lead for CAG’s commercial retail and property practice, Nicholas Poa leads dispute avoidance and Jean Tan drives knowledge management’. Loong explains that ‘driving positive change’ is at the heart of all the team does, and has been the primary force behind the constant innovation and improvements made by the team despite its already excellent reputation. As she puts it: ‘The legal team recognises that it is well-placed to impact positive change across the entire organisation. In this, the members of the team are not only called upon to be outstanding legal experts but also trusted advisers on doing what is right for the business’.
