Guyana-born Denise Grant counts corporate, acquisition, leveraged and project finance as core strengths. With multiple instructions from multinational corporations, institutional lenders and export credit agencies, Grant has developed a broad perspective on financial transactions in the region, including acting for an 11-bank syndicate, mostly comprising Mexican banks, on a $300m loan to Nemak. She has also assisted Bank of Nova Scotia and Scotiabank Chile on a revolving credit facility for Molymex and acted for the joint book-runners and lead arrangers on a $1.25bn facility for Pemex, and for Abengoa on obtaining a $200m loan for the 778MW Norte III project in Juárez. Outside of Mexico, she acted for a 19-bank syndicate on the $4.1bn financing of the 1,000km Gasoducto Sur Peruano project in Southern Peru. She also advised Citigroup Global Markets as book-runner and lead arranger on the $170 financing of Stabilit America’s purchase of NPI Holding. Grant also does pro bono work, much of which has been cross-border, involving jurisdictions such as Haiti and is a trustee of the Pingry School in New Jersey. Twenty years ago, she became Shearman & Sterling’s first black partner.
