Leading the legal department in his role as general counsel, Dr Stefan Brügmann provides support to publically-held commercial bank Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen (Helaba) across all of its business ventures. These span a wide range of financial services both within Germany and internationally, and Helaba is also in the enviable position of being the central clearing institution and service provider for 40 per cent of German savings banks. Dr Brügmann has acquired a reputation within the market for precise and timely legal counsel, accruing skills during spells in the in-house legal departments of Deutsche Bank, Vereins- und Westbank and Landesbank Kiel. Before joining Helaba, he also had a significant period in the in-house team of HSH Nordbank from 2003 until early 2015. Here, he held several positions – global head of HR being one notable role –  and was global head of legal before moving to Helaba.
