Oscar Jara León’s time as a prosecutor for Military Factories and Armories (FAMAE) started 12 years ago when he applied for a prosecutor assistant role during his last year at university. ‘I was always clear of the purpose to contribute as a lawyer to an official state company, mainly due to perception of belonging to something big and transcendent nationwide’, says León. During the early days in this role, he had the opportunity to gain knowledge of arms equipment and explosives applying his knowledge of intellectual property, confidentiality agreements and sensitive military secrets. On April 2013, he officially assumed the prosecutor position and immediately went on to majoring in business. Since taking on this position he has led the incorporation of internal regulations of corporate governance and transparency as a way to continue on the business path of a bicentennial company. This large-scale job required him to gather information and negotiate with the authority of the country related to defence and private contractors who became part of the Chamber of Commerce of Santiago as part of corporate governance and transparency policy. Due to his accrued knowledge in explosive regulations, León enjoys being an associate professor at the chair of Legislation of Mining Engineering, at Universidad de Chile.
