Featured in the inaugural GC Powerlist: Peru for her contribution towards the launch of Nissan’s LEAF electric vehicle in Chile, Ana María Muñoz Blawciak has gone from to strength to strength at the global carmaker which she has served since 2015. Since then she has been working on landmark deals for Nissan by consolidating the company’s dealership network for Chile as well as helping set-up and open Nissan Peru, bringing the Chilean Nissan dealers to invest and become dealers in Peru too. Also reflecting the company’s ambitions, Muñoz has utilised the latest technology effectively within her own team to ensure the provision of legal services are of the highest quality and explains why this is so important: ‘Technology is key to improve the legal work. It is mandatory to know about systems and apps that help you with workflows, documents and indicators. Legal and big data management systems are going to change the way we work very quickly’. Credited as an example to other aspiring female in-house lawyers who work in male-dominated industries, Muñoz is keen to see more women in senior legal positions: ‘I am working with more in-house female lawyers to create a group organisation for networking, share best practices and, more importantly, mentoring more female lawyers that work in companies in Chile. I strongly believe in the power of women as in-house lawyers, [and] we need to keep working to gain spaces and positions, as there are still only a few women in senior legal management positions’. Valued by Nissan Chile’s CEO and senior management, Muñoz is also credited for her business-oriented and pragmatic approach to facilitating company goals.
