With revenues of close to US$1bn, not only is Viña Concha y Toro Latin America’s biggest wine producer it is also one of the leading companies in the global wine market. Enrique Ortúzar joined the company in 2001 initially as an exclusive outside legal counsel through a position with Ossandon, Uribe y Hübner; currently Uribe, Hübner & Compañía. In 2007, he was appointed as the company’s head lawyer and in 2010 became Viña Concha y Toro’s general counsel, assuming my current position. Since then has become secretary of the board of directors of the holding company and been appointed as director, officer and secretary of many of its subsidiaries. During his tenure Ortúzar has been highly involved in legal processes that have led to numerous industry awards in recent years, such as awards for corporate responsibility and branding in jurisdictions with famously strict labelling regulations. He has also led major acquisitions for the company such as the full acquisition of a Vineyard in the US, Fetzer Vineyards, and the incorporation of many subsidiaries abroad. He particularly highlights that it ‘was very gratifying participating in the creation of Viña Concha y Toro’s Centre of Research and Innovation, unique in Latin America’. He is the company’s first internal legal counsel, therefore he has built the current legal team from the ground up. He also headed the implementation of the company’s corporate legal division and also assisted creating the current compliance structure.
