Lumina Copper Chile
Jointly owned by two Japanese companies – Pacific Copper and Mitsui & Co, Lumina Copper Chile owns and operates the Atacama based Caserones copper-molybdenum project. Launched in 2006, the project is comprised of an open pit mine, a concentrator plant and a SX-EW plant. Managing the legal and regulatory side of all of these operations is by no means easy for Alejandro Barack Canut De Bon Lagos and his team of lawyers, as it often requires them to react to rapidly changing, unforeseen circumstances. Characterised by high adaptability, however, this team is extremely well prepared to deal with such hurdles. Canut, who we featured in last year’s GC Powerlist: Chile, impresses nominators with his negotiation and contract management skills demonstrated not only during his three-year tenure at Lumina Copper, but during the entire course of his highly impressive career. It includes experiences of managing legal processes in both Chile and abroad at the global mining behemoth BHP Billiton. To further expand its already strong bench, comprised of experienced professionals such as legal manger Nemesio Orellana Rojas, the team recently added Joaquín Vicuña del Río to its ranks.
