Heading the legal team of Isagro, Laura Tricomi serves as group director of legal affairs, reporting directly to the president and chief executive officer of the company. Established in 1993, Isagro is an Italian company employing approximately 650 people and operating in research, development, production and distribution of agropharmaceuticals. In addition to handling the negotiation and execution of commercial agreements, the legal team recently has been involved in a number of significant deals and transactions. For example, in December 2017, with substantial contribution from the legal function, Isagro signed a commercial agreement with Arysta LifeScience for the distribution of certain agrochemical products in Brazil. Arysta paid an upfront US$9m as a consideration for the distribution rights and agreed to purchase Fluindapyr based products that will be distributed on an exclusive basis in certain crops in Brazil for the entire duration of contract. In addition, the legal department dealt with Isagro’s signing of license and supply agreement with AQL Agroquimicos De Levante in March 2019, where AQL is obliged to pay an upfront fee of €2.5m. Summing up the team ethos, Tricomi says: ‘The legal team supports top management in very complex M&A transactions as well as in negotiating commercial agreements, with considerable legal competency, teamwork and a focus on achieving the goal. Managing most of the in-house legal and corporate activities directly, the legal team guarantees Isagro and the Group quick and competent answers, and above all, cost containment for legal consultancy, thus ensuring the continuation and enhancements of the business’.
