Zurich Insurance Company is a leading multi-line insurer that serves its customers in both global and local markets. Zurich’s customers include individuals, small businesses, and mid-sized and large companies, as well as multinational corporations. Covering M&A, finance and investments, the MFI team is comprised of five lawyers located in Zurich and one lawyer based in New York. Led by head of legal for MFI Robert Kuster, the team navigates the complex legal and regulatory environments to take on a crucial function within Zurich’s operations and activities. ‘The MFI team is a sophisticated and internationally-oriented team of deal lawyers who provide bespoke and commercially pragmatic legal advice on complex cross-border transactions in fast-paced business environment in a highly regulated industry’, says Kuster. The MFI legal team is part of Zurich Insurance Company’s corporate centre, within the group legal function and reports to the general counsel, legal affairs Adrian Peyer who in turn reports to the group general counsel, Yannick Hausmann. The MFI team has been involved in numerous noteworthy capital markets debt issuances and M&A insuretech transactions over the past few years such as the acquisition of leading Indonesian insurer Adira Insurance, as well as the acquisitions of the life insurance businesses and long-term savings operations of EuroAmerica in Chile. Zurich’s Group M&A team won the “KPMG Swiss M&A Most Active Dealmaker” award for 2018, a testimony of the high levels of legal activity undertaken by Zurich in the past year. On many of those deals the MFI team was closely involved, providing legal guidance and helping ensure the success of each transaction executed over the course of 2018.
