General counsel | Dragon Oil
Sandra Redding is no stranger to supporting extremely complex and high value transactions: ‘As legal counsel for RWE Dea (now Ineos), having responsibility for the legal work needed to bring the Clipper South gas field development on stream in the North Sea was a major highlight. This was the first offshore gas project I’d worked on, and as a young lawyer it was an amazing opportunity to learn about handling multiple work streams, tough deadlines, demanding stakeholders and complex, risky project work’. Now general counsel for Dubai-based state-owned oil exploration and production company Dragon Oil, she describes how moving to the company meant she had to develop her skills in a large number of areas simultaneously: ‘This very challenging and demanding role has allowed me to develop as a lawyer through having accountability for many complex legal issues as both a business leader and commercial adviser by working within a senior leadership team of talented peers’. She stays extremely busy in her role, supporting a wide range of initiatives. Among others, she mentions ‘new asset acquisitions, a joint venture formation and the production of oil from our asset in Iraq for the first time, exploration activity and drilling in three new countries and management of several international arbitrations’ as just some of the work she has overseen in the past three years.
