Karl Rogers joined Standard Chartered in 2010 from Norton Rose Fulbright, and leads the regional Africa and Middle East legal team across 25 countries. He has driven the direction of the African and Middle East legal team’s team strategy and overall direction since, ‘expanding the structure of the team to incorporate on-the-ground legal specialists in areas such as disputes, government investigations, restructurings, and employment law, which ensures the bank has access to a full service in-house law firm with real time capabilities across our regional footprint’, as he puts it. As regional general counsel, Rogers is the first point of contact for the regional CEO for Africa and the Middle East and his regional management team, which Rogers is a member of. He is also one of the more high-profile in-house lawyers in the Middle East, as chair of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, Middle East Committee and a member of the Dubai International Financial Centre Legislative Committee Authority. Rogers recently addressed the Standard Chartered senior legal team in Europe and the Americas in London, stating: ‘Leading the AME regional legal team is an absolute privilege.
