The FAST Consortium, one of three contracted to build the multi-billion dollar Riyadh Metro project, is led by Spanish construction major FCC Construccion. As such, Pablo Seijas Ameijide operates a dual role as both regional general counsel and compliance officer for the GCC region for FCC and legal and contracts manager lead for the FAST Consortium, with both roles originally taken on in October 2016. He considers his current role as ‘one of the top highlights’ of his career, but also mentions his work on the US$4.53bn Metro de Lima Linea 2 in Peru while based there with FCC as another extremely rewarding project. Seijas also recalls various other high value infrastructure projects, including the Toronto York Spadina Subway Extension Project, the Gerald Desmond Bridge in Los Angeles and the Fredericton-Moncton highway in New Brunswick, Canada extremely fondly as particular career highlights during his twelve year career with FCC around the world. It is clear that Seijas has had a major positive impact on the capabilities of FCC’s internal legal team as well. ‘I have led different regional legal departments for the past 12 years at FCC and have been active in the leadership of legal initiatives in the regions under my responsibility’, says Seijas. ‘I encourage my team’s deep involvement to the close alignment with the business units, promoting the importance for internal counsel to have deep knowledge of the business, act with efficiency and collaborate with department managers in order to ensure the fulfilment of the strategic objectives of the company. I also foster the implementation of a strict cost discipline culture in legal expenses and a boost to compliance at local level. I consider my contribution as central to forming a team that is reputed for giving a solid legal advice which is instrumental in the strategic decision-making of the company’.
