Margaret Ahearn continues to demonstrate excellent legal leadership at Hewlett-Packard International Bank. Initially when she qualified in 1999, Ahearn worked in private practice for 10 years approximately. There she says that she ‘was exposed to a broad range of diverse legal issues upon which she had to advise and which proved to be a great learning ground for me, as it taught me how to be as productive as possible which is maintaining a very high standard of legal professional guidance for my clients’. Thereafter in 2009, she moved in-house and has been there ever since. Initially she provided legal support for the Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Financial Services business unit for almost seven years before moving to HP in 2015. There she provided more general legal guidance to the HP business for approximately two years. Since 2017, she has moved back into financial services, providing more strategic legal support to the financial service business in terms of both legal compliance and ongoing transactional support and other general legal guidance. Ahearn has been involved in the navigation of many complex legal transactions involving public procurement regulations and conditions across EMEA within her multifaceted role. She highlights that, she developed a guidance tool to highlight the legal risks and other pertinent considerations associated with such complex opportunities. About her career success she highlights that she is definitive about what she wants and in what sector. ‘I know the type of work that motivates me to be the best legal professional that I can possibly be. Professionally, I know very well the business in which I am employed, where we can play and win and more importantly, where the challenges are for us. This empowers me to be direct and focused in deciding priority tasks that will prove to be the most meaningful for the business and helps me to anticipate what’s around the corner’.
