Rachel Curran, as general counsel for Ulster Bank, has displayed an extremely strong skill-set in her senior position at the organisation. In the words of a nominator, ‘this has been demonstrated at a time of peak market uncertainty, especially in relation to Brexit. She has pioneered a number of ground-breaking initiatives with her interactions with outside counsel, by way of example, this has included hosting a town hall meeting for all of Ulster Bank’s external panel of lawyers in which she conveys a clear communication from the senior legal team, as well as the c-suite level. This assists external lawyers to understand the demands and culture of the Bank. She is both innovative and pragmatic’. Among a significant amount of work in the past year, Curran and her legal department led on legal arrangements for the November 2018 announced cash back scheme in partnership with Visa. The team has also been leading efforts for the Irish and Northern Irish bank’s preparations for Brexit.
