The eight-person Indian team at the global mobile advertising platform InMobi has helped the business cope with a difficult period by handling complex matters with ‘sensitivity and efficiency’ according to its associate general counsel Pujarini Maulik. ‘Legal made a tangible impact by providing practical business and pricing structures surrounding changes with vendors and partners,’ Maulik adds. ‘By way of example, a lot of costs were recuperated from third parties due to the team’s efforts, including strategic win-win settlement of commercial disputes’. Defined by an innovative and creative work culture, the team was also one of the pioneers in creating a privacy program which meets global best practices within the advertising network industry. According to Maulik: ‘Robust privacy practices and standards have been implemented to meet the expectations of privacy regulators in evolved markets, while a dedicated skill-based committee has been set up to oversee the implementation and compliance requirements’. Recent transactional achievements for the team include its work to launch InMobi’s first B2C product portfolio – Glance; involvement in the process of striking key strategic and data partnerships with original equipment manufacturers, successful third party audit of privacy systems and the handling of debt and equity restructurings. In addition to Maulik, the team is led by highly experienced general counsel Amit Singh Chauhan and features a number of prominent lawyers including Shyaam Nagarajan and Lily Feng. ‘It is a small and well-knit team where each individual is genuinely invested in propelling the team to new heights and believes in work-life balance,’ says Maulik.
