Formerly known as United Phosphorous, UPL, together with its subsidiaries, manufactures and markets chemicals across India, Europe, North America and Latin America. Providing full legal coverage to the company’s agricultural and non-agricultural business segments, UPL’s legal team has shown outstanding expertise in M&A transactions, drafting and contract review and negotiations, as well as its ability to safeguard the company in strategic disputes. Over the last two years the department has been at the core of UPL’s efforts to expand both nationally and internationally by supporting several acquisitions of interest in companies such as Weather Risk Management and Serra Bonita Sementes among others. Its leader Rohit Kumar, has been singled out as an ‘inspiration to peers’ with an ‘excellent understanding of commercial aspects’, and boasts more than 11 years of experience in dealing with mergers, acquisitions and other corporate law issues. Having joined the company in 2017, Kumar successfully formed a creative legal function, implementing his philosophy of openness to new ideas and thoughts.
