Cuba-born Marta Carreira-Slabe took an unusual route to law. She began her career as a broadcast journalist and news anchor in Illinois before retraining as a lawyer and becoming clerk for the Office of Legal Counsel at the University Of Illinois. She later joined Sidley Austin as an associate in its Chicago office. She is now chief counsel for Latin America at Aon – a leading global professional services firm providing a broad range of risk, retirement and health solutions – where she oversees a team of lawyers throughout the region and handles transactional matters, litigation and regulatory affairs across its retail brokerage, reinsurance brokerage, and human-resources consulting arms.
