About

Tom Hodge has developed in-house processes to aggregate deal and fundraising data and map market trends to seek competitive advantage in transactions and fundraising. He has also developed procedures for working with external deal counsel to manage transaction processes and costs, as Glendower works with multiple external counsel (some with less familiarity of the firm and its funds). In order to develop the legal and compliance team and provide opportunities to talented early career professionals, Hodge launched internship and analyst programs for individuals looking to start their career at Glendower. Hodge sits on Glendower’s Global Operating Committee and is spearheading a number of key projects for the firm, in particular on ESG and corporate social responsibility issues; as a result of his efforts, Glendower has become a UN PRI signatory and is working towards becoming carbon-neutral.

He has spearheaded the establishment of Glendower’s in-house legal and compliance function, assembling a team that supports the business with respect to all legal, corporate governance and compliance matters that arise in the course of their business, from fundraising to secondary transactions to regulatory compliance to employment matters. In terms of initiatives implemented, Hodge evaluated how an in-house legal and compliance term could better serve the business and put in place measures to ensure the Glendower was gaining a competitive advantage by aggregating deal and fundraising data and mapping market trends.

Hodge has demonstrated a range of qualities, primary among them: a willingness to work hard; an ability to develop relationships and collaborate with a range of different people, inside and outside Glendower; and an open-mindedness and willingness to learn. Hodge has also been willing to throw himself at a range of matters outside the legal and compliance world, recognising the need for everyone at a fast-growing business with limited internal resource to contribute in whatever way they can and making the most of the opportunities available to him. The general counsel role was new to Hodge when he started at Glendower, and he has leveraged his experience of working in the logistics industry prior to attending law school and sought to apply that to managing a team at Glendower. This has not in any way put him off or slowed him down; and he has shown a real maturity in how he has sought to develop and improve, both his own personal and professional skills and Glendower’s legal and compliance function.
