General counsel David Holmström has led the legal team at corporate finance business Mangold Fondkommission since October 2017, developing the entire internal legal team structure from scratch. He is the lead on legal operations which involves all internal and external legal inquiries, contracts and negotiations, M&A, corporate law, project management, judicial inquiries, trademarks, information security and compliance. The latter includes a range of different regulatory issues applicable to companies in the banking and finance industry, including MiFID II and PSD2, as well as other regulation including recent GDPR. He is totally committed to bringing the legal team’s work into the fabric of the business operations of the company, and creating a culture of transparency at all levels. During his time at Mangold, he has led the implementation of MiFIDII, which he describes as ‘the most comprehensive regulatory change within the financial industry in modern times’ and to set the strategic plan for the company from a legal standpoint. He also highlights his other experience bringing different skills to his work with Mangold. He says: ‘I think it’s very important to highlight the responsibility of professionals such as general counsel to also use the abilities we learn through our work in other parts of society. For me, this has expressed itself through a long term engagement in pro bono work through NGOs and different organisations focusing on educational matters and poverty alleviation’. One of his greatest achievements was the acquisition of 25% of the alternative investment fund Resscapital, which was a small transaction in size but legally complex due to the nature of its owners. A nominator highlights his experience and talent as a leader saying that, ‘at merely 27 years old he was chosen to lead the small investment firm Mangold’s legal operation. Mangold being one of Sweden’s most active firms within investment banking, listed on First North Premier with an annual revenue of SEK138m in 2017 and currently employing almost 100 people’.
