As the senior vice president and general counsel of one of Sweden’s most valuable manufacturing companies, Martina Klaus is responsible for legal matters, logistics and regulatory affairs at Volvo Group Trucks Operations. This part of the Volvo business makes engines, transmissions and cabs for Volvo trucks, and is also responsible for assembly of these vehicles. It has 40 plants and more than 60 distribution centres around the world, and Klaus handles and monitor the various legal risks and challenges that occur across all of these operations. Her remit includes corporate matters, supply and assembly contracts, compliance and trade barrier issues, requiring a deep knowledge of all related legal practice areas as well as their application in a global business context. She directly manages 12 legal counsels based in the EMEA, Americas and Asia Pacific regions and reports to the executive vice president of Volvo Group Trucks Operations. She brings a wealth of experience to the role from a legal career that began with a LLM from the University of Gothenburg in 1998, time in the Lund District Court between 1997 and 1999, as well as a role as an associate at Mannheimer Swartling. Klaus’ experience within the Volvo Group itself also contributes to her outstanding provision of global support; she previously held legal counsel roles in Volvo Aero and the Volvo China Investment Company in Shanghai, China.
