Irish semi-state owned company Bord na Móna are traditionally known for their harvesting of peat, primarily in the Midlands of Ireland. However in recent years there has been a change...
Anna-Marie Curry, company secretary and general counsel, leads the legal team at Bord Na Móna, an Irish publicly owned energy company with its origins in peat production which has grown into all areas of energy production; in particular, sustainable energy. Its products run from biomass, peat and green energy fuels and heating through to horticulture, resource recovery to recycling and waste management. Curry is responsible for the board’s governance and procedures as well as being the key liaison for the department of communications, climate action and environment, as well as legal and internal audits. As such, the legal team is focused on delivering legal areas related to the company’s sustainable development goals, a major priority for the company. Bord na Móna announced this year that it is converting 125,000 acres of bogland property into sustainable energy centres and biodiverse habitats to create eco-tourism, horticulture and green energy for its customers, the largest change of use of land in modern Irish history.
