The legal team at Clanwilliam Group, a rapidly expanding global healthcare services and technology business headquartered in Dublin, is closely aligned with the Group’s rapid expansion which has seen the number of employees double in the last twelve months. Ronan Lennon is general counsel and company secretary at the company and he advises all group businesses across multiple regions including New Zealand and Australia and is a member of Clanwilliam’s senior executive management team providing key insight into the acquisition strategy for the Group. He manages a team of two lawyers and two support staff. Through a collaborative approach with key internal stakeholders, the legal team has designed and implemented internal processes including corporate governance structures to achieve greater efficiencies necessary for the continued expansion of this rapidly growing Group. The expansion of the legal team, and in particular Lennon’s M&A expertise, has meant that the team has advised on the acquisitions by the group with significantly reduced external input. As a rapidly expanding network of businesses, the legal team is tasked with not only managing the day-to-day legal issues for all Group businesses including advising on commercial contracts, corporate governance, data protection, intellectual property, employment, trademarks and commercial legal matters, the team has played a pivotal role in the seven acquisitions by the group over the course of the last 12 months to May 2018. Lennon advised the group in respect of the acquisition of Healthlink and Konnect Net in New Zealand and the group the company expects to double in size again by the end of 2018 with planned acquisitions in both the UK and Australia expected to complete in the second half of 2018. Lennon has a close working relationship with Howard Beggs, Clanwilliam Group CEO and senior management to ensure that the legal team is closely aligned with both the Clanwilliam Group and its investor’s strategic goals whilst the organisation continues its rapid expansion. Lennon identifies Fiona Johnson as making a particular contribution to the team. Johnson joined the Clanwilliam Group in May 2018. At Clanwilliam, Lennon says that, ‘Johnson’s sensible and commercial legal approach has ensured that she has fitted seamlessly into the Clanwilliam legal team. Fiona has been a valuable addition to the team advising business unit leaders in respect of commercial contracts’. The rapid expansion of the Group brings challenges, however this innovate legal team embraces and welcomes growth and change whilst relishing the opportunity of playing a leading role in the Group’s continued success.
