How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?
We have managed to use the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity for change. During this unprecedented time, we have seen companies and employees embrace new skills and develop new behaviours that have improved our operation. As employees have been forced to work from home, and companies have had to embrace this change, we are generally experiencing a shift in productivity and employees’ freedom. This has also affected in-house counsel leading to a better balance between work and private life. However, the opportunity to spar and discuss issues with colleagues daily, on the other hand, is unfortunately minimised.
What will be the main focus for the company in the next 12 months and how do you intend to assist with this?
We are a company in continuous growth, and our main focus is to hire new employees that can bring several skills to our table. In a talent war, we must be an attractive employer who supports diversity and inclusion as well as talent.
What do you feel are the pros and cons of an in-house legal role compared to a private practice one?
Being an in-house counsel means representing the culture of your company all the time, during every legal assessment, which pushes you to do better. However, it comes with the risk that in-house counsel might be biased and assess cases relying on the company’s lenses.
