In February 2017, after over two decades of in-house legal experience at a range of Italian fashion brands, Fabrizio Caretta joined luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana as its general counsel. Although Caretta has a strong knowledge of all legal aspects related to the fashion industry, his areas of focus also encompass licensing, real estate, IP, commercial law, corporate affairs, M&A and labour law. With a standout reputation in the sector, one nominator states ‘in the legal-fashion environment, Caretta has a reputation of being a very business-oriented lawyer with strong negotiation skills’. The foundation for Caretta’s career was laid down after a number of years spent in a law firm, after which he joined Fila Sports, one of the top players in the sporting apparel and shoes business, in the capacity of Italy and international counsel in 1995. During his time at Fila he focused mainly on sponsorship agreements, commercial law and intellectual property matters. Caretta then joined Italian luxury fashion house Prada in 2000, first as legal director of Prada Industrial and in 2004 was appointed as Prada Group legal director. This role saw him manage and supervise the legal department at Prada’s headquarters as well as all Prada legal offices worldwide.
