In what ways do you see the in-house legal role evolving in your region over the next few years?  

A continuation of the ongoing evolution of in-house lawyers being proactively engaged and deployed by their customers as trusted business partners that deliver solutions and significant value to key stakeholders. This trend is likely to be accelerated in the years ahead as stakeholders will demand greater efficiencies in legal services without comprising on effectiveness and this can only be achieved when and where in-house lawyers truly understand their stakeholders needs. 

ICON operate in a highly regulated industry and we have grown from a team of 5 in Ireland in 1990 to 38,000+ globally in 2022.  Our legal team are structured to provide our services as trusted business partners and this model has proven to be resilient, efficient and effective during the growth and evolution of ICON and positions us to provide proactive advice and solutions to our stakeholders as we move forward.

  • What impact did the pandemic have on the Pharmaceutical and Medical Technology Industries in Ireland?   

The pharma and med tech industries were challenged to identify and deliver efficient and effective global solutions as a consequence of the pandemic. As a global provider of outsourced services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and government and public health organisation, ICON were positioned to support our customers’ in facing this challenge and we are proud of the services and solutions we provided. This included helping Pfizer and BioNTech accelerate their mission to develop the world’s first investigational vaccine for COVID-19 to obtain regulatory approval on one of the largest and most expeditious randomised clinical trials ever conducted.
