Bonaventure Mbewe is one of Zambia’s preeminent in-house lawyers in the financial sector, and in his current role of head of legal and compliance for FBZ, occupies the most senior legal position at one of the largest commercial banks in the country.

He can point to a proven track record of dealing with the legal issues surrounding risk management, payment systems, banking, securities, pension and aviation throughout his diverse and long-standing in-house career.

Mbewe first joined the in-house legal community in 1989 as an assistant legal counsel for Zambia Airways Corporation Limited, and subsequently undertook in-house counsel positions at ZCF Insurance Services and the Bank of Zambia, and spent over 13 years at Barclays Zambia between 2004 and 2017, departing after achieving the role of head of legal and compliance. Mbewe is a graduate of the University of Zambia.
