Power Assets Holdings, a Hong Kong based investment company, through HK Electric Investments and CK Hutchinson Group, holds 33.37% of The Hong Kong Electric Company (HK Electric). Founded in 1889, HK Electric is wholly responsible for the generation, transmission, distribution and supply of electricity to Hong Kong and Lamma Islands. It serves over half a million customers in Hong Kong and has maintained a 99.99% reliability rating since 1997, one of the highest in the world. HK Electric has recently been investing in advanced new technology to keep up this quality service and to increase its capacity. Aiding these initiatives is the company’s in-house legal team led by Alex Ng Wai Cheong, group legal counsel and company secretary of Power Assets Holdings, with over 15 years of experience in legal, regulatory and compliance dual qualified in Hong Kong and England and Wales. The team is responsible for all the legal matters required to fulfil the company’s growth plans and its continued delivery of electricity to Hong Kong. Specifically, the team will be managing HK Electric’s transition from coal to gas fired generation plants in its 2019-2023 development plan conducting all of the contracts and legal affairs required.
