Which recent political, economic, or regulatory changes have impacted the company and the team the most?
The last few months have been challenging for us due to the new government guidelines on power plants; we renegotiated Purchase Power Agreement with the Honduras government.
In what ways do you see the in-house legal role evolving in your region over the next few years?
The role of in-house lawyers will become more innovative and proactive over the next few years in Honduras. Not limited to traditional legal practice of litigation and contract drafting, we will be engaged in more business practice including M&A. I strongly believe that in-house lawyers with flexible and proactive attitudes will bring more opportunities for their companies. Therefore, training for new skills is vital to adapt to the fast-changing market.
How has the increasing consciousness of climate change and sustainability affected the company and the team’s priorities?
Climate change and sustainability are cornerstones of our company’s value. Our legal team support Corporación Multi Inversiones to develop ESG policy of bringing positive impact in the countries that we invest. Our commitments toward COP26 are also very firm and consistent with our latest green bond issuance of 700 million; we comply with the Green Bond Framework to proceed into the eligible green projects.
We are extremely proud of our clean energy generation stations of solar, hydro and wind power which annually prevent around 1.5 million tons of carbon dioxide, alongside our commitment to support the communities that we operate.
