Johnathan Pyne, general counsel, leads the legal team at SJM Holdings, the holding company of Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, one of six companies authorised to operate in the Macau Special Administrative Region since 2002, with locations on Macau Peninsula and Taipa Island. The casinos offer VIP table gaming, mass market tables and slot machines and is in the process of expansion, with plans to open a resort called The Grand Lisboa Palace in Cotai. The legal team, under Pyne’s direction, is responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of all legal affairs relating to the business and its expansion. In addition to its handling of new hotels and other company transactions, the legal team monitors the multiple subsidiaries handled by the holding company including SJM Theodore Racing which competes the Macau Grand Prix FIA Formula 3 championships and others on the circuit. The team also worked on legal matters relating to the opening of the Jai Alai Hotel in Macau Outer harbour district in 2017.
