Amol Prabhu has a cross-product advisory role within Barclays’ emerging markets investment banking business across Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He works with a variety of stakeholders in defining and implementing the strategic direction of the bank, driving forward critical initiatives and provides legal, wider risk management and reputational advice on new opportunities and transactions.

Nominators commented on Prabhu’s experience: ‘The lawyer for Emerging Markets. There is not much that happens in the emerging markets space at Barclays that Prabhu and his team are not involved in’. In the Africa space, Prabhu has been instrumental in the development of an integrated legal coverage model which provides effective and efficient legal and reputational risk management on a cross-product basis for the firm, that seeks to provide innovative financing solutions for African clients on a local, regional and global basis, as well as non-African clients seeking to access the continent.

Prabhu was widely praised for his interaction with senior stakeholders within the company. As one nominator commented: ‘Simply put, when there are key strategic issues to be discussed or challenging risk or reputational situations to manage, I need Amol at the table. He is absolutely the “trusted adviser and strategic partner” providing incredibly valuable insight and solution orientated guidance, far wider than just the legal view, which is driven off his deep knowledge of the industry we operate in, the dynamics of the firm, his strong product, technical and geographic expertise and honed risk radar.’

Over the last year Prabhu has been the lead lawyer for Barclays International in the separation with Barclays Africa and the go-forward business model for the firm (both in Africa and emerging markets globally). In the words of one nominator, ‘this has (and continues to be) a massive task working across business units: investment banking, corporate, wealth, retail and card, and it is a testament to Prabhu’s leadership skills, capabilities and the gravitas he has within the firm that such progress has been made’.
