Focus on the challenges for an in-house lawyer in the mining sector

As a lawyer in a large mining company, there are always great challenges, especially in Peru, since despite being the great engine of the economy, extractive activity has always been, is, and will be, immersed in controversy and questioned for various reasons, whether they are justified or not. Here, mining contributes to the well-being, not only of its workers but also of the surrounding communities.

Unfortunately, at present, due to our political situation, many social conflicts are occurring. Thus, It is our duty as lawyers to find solutions aimed at developing not only the company we work for, but also our country as a whole, whilst contributing to social welfare.

The pandemic has taught us that we must always be prepared for changes.  For the first time in Peru, the judiciary sector has already partially digitised its procedures. In my opinion, this is a great opportunity so that lawyers can have quicker and more efficient tools. Moreover, without the need to move to the judicial headquarters. I sincerely hope that this will be maintained and greatly improved given that digitisation is of great use to improve our judicial system.
