Elizabeth Tirone
Associate general counsel | CDC Group
Highly experienced, Elizabeth Tirone is CDC’s associate general counsel and works primarily with CDC’s intermediated equity team investing in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. She joined CDC in September 2008. Before this, she was legal counsel at Atlas Venture and counsel at Morrison and Foerster based in Hong Kong, London and Singapore. Prior to that, Elizabeth worked as an attorney for Exxon based in Texas.
CDC, established in 1948, is the world’s oldest development finance institution (DFI) and invests from its own balance sheet of over $6bn and has committed S$13.2bn to African private equity funds, $800m to direct equity investments and $500m to debt investments since 2004. Currently invested in 48 African private equity funds, its receipts and profits are recycled into new investments.
Tirone is a regional legal expert as well as a cross-border transaction specialist. In addition, she is highly accomplished in negotiations relating to investments, deals with data protection matters for the company and is highly active on the corporate side; she liaises regularly with the board of directors and drafts papers for the board’s strategic meetings. Tirone has degrees from the University of Maryland and Drexel University and is admitted to practice in the states of Texas and Maryland.
