The overriding goal of the general counsel and legal team is to participate and add value to the critical strategic decisions in the company. To succeed in this responsibility, the general counsel must work in complete alignment with the corporate objectives. This can only be achieved by immersing ourselves in essential matters and developing a clear understanding of the business.

Efficiency and creativity soar when we work in concert with other areas in the corporation. Information from all sources provides the raw materials required and the fountain of knowledge we need to produce complete and thorough analyses and recommendations in the company’s best interests. Bringing new disciplines to our team is an important way of changing the paradigm of the practice of law. We recently incorporated an engineer to be responsible for the management of our contracts, which has enhanced the quality of our work.

A corporation is a dynamic entity, as is the law. The changes in the legal profession and demands of industry are in a constant state of flux. We need to be updated with current trends affecting our industry, such as compliance and corruption regulation and ESG criteria. General counsel should identify those who can help to protect the business and promote its growth.
