A lawyer with more than 25 years of experience in the electricity industry, as well as years of executive board experience, 15 years’ experience as general counsel and managing a legal department that has grown from three to 12 in-house lawyers, Astrid Skjønborg Brunt is an expert in sourcing external legal services, CSR, corporate governance, managing legal risk, and disputes. Holding a recently acquired masters degree in technology management, with focus on international electricity markets, the European electricity markets, security of supply, environmental aspects, and R&D activities, she expertly leads the legal department at Statnett, Norway’s state owned system operator of its power grid system. Statnett operates 11,000km of high-voltage lines and 150 stations around the country and is also responsible for connections to Sweden, Finland, Russia, Denmark and the Netherlands. In the past year, Stattnet has announced its linkage to a new undersea cable running from the North coast of Germany to Norway. The Statnett legal team was present during these projects. The company is also a pioneer in innovative grid management technology, launching a new sponsored professorship at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in the field of blockchain and machine learning.
