As the vice president general counsel for Garmin, Andrew Etkind has acquired much industry knowledge, and skills that have helped him provide optimum legal support to the multinational technology company. His journey with Garmin dates back to February 1998, when he took up the role, heading a legal team of 15 lawyers and two non-lawyers with 10 based in the US Garmin is split into five business divisions, including marine, outdoor, fitness, auto and aviation, and has a market capitalisation of US$8.72bn. As the company widens its approach and international scope the team is expanding into new jurisdictions. Etkind has not only supported this growth but has also assisted on the company successfully challenging misleading advertising by a competitor through complaints to the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Netherlands Advertising Code Committee.
