Laura Falcone has received much praise from a range of nominators in the region, being described as a ‘seasoned and competent’ executive legal advisor with many years of experience and as having ‘a profound knowledge’ in the provision of legal and corporate services in a number of jurisdictions. Falcone joined Coeclerici Group in December 2004, getting involved in what she described as the ‘extraordinary world of ships and commodities’ where she had the opportunity to operate in Italy, Siberia, Germany, Venezuela, India, Indonesia, Malta, Ireland, Ohio and Florida (US), England, Portugal, France and most recently Switzerland, while experiencing different countries and legal systems. ‘The breath of internationality is extremely important when you are a legal advisor of a trading and mining company’, she says. As the senior legal advisor of trading and mining for the business, Falcone heads the legal and compliance operations and under her legal leadership Coeclerici has moved its entire trading activities from Italy and Singapore to Switzerland, which has fortified her position as a key figure and highly regarded legal advisor within Coeclerici. Part of this is attributed to her ability to juggle and put multiple deals together, signing and closing them directly or working with external support. Her attention to detail and motivated approach has been complimented by a nominator who says: ‘She works very effectively in instructing and working with teams of lawyers worldwide and provides very effective liaison and control of the transactions and matters with which she is involved’. Within the last three years Falcone has been active in Switzerland in addition to working on worldwide trading contracts in the related insurance, shipping and transportation field. She has also headed up large arbitration matters in London as well as court processes in Switzerland, Singapore and Brazil. She is consistently highly recommended for her expertise in putting transactions together as well as administering and resolving disputes. Amongst these transactions, in 2006 she concluded the first cross border merger between Coeclerici’s Dutch and Italian businesses. She also concluded a pool loan agreement of €215m with Banca Carige.
