Benoit Balmary joined the French tyre manufacturer Michelin in 2014. Reporting directly to the company’s executive president, Balmary presides over a department of more than 200 people spread across 20 countries. The unit consists of eight “domain” teams, each specialising in a particular branch of the law, and working with other teams to support seven distinct geographic territories.
Over the last four years, Balmary has received immense praise for his work on aligning the work of the eight teams to provide well-coordinated support to Michelin’s global operations, hence contributing to the sustainability of the company’s long term growth. Balmary’s former legal career features a group general counsel position at Dassault Système and a deputy general counsel role at Alcatel. Between 1994 and 2001, Balmary worked within Groupe Renault’s legal department.
He holds a Master’s degree in public law and a DEA in environmental law from the University Panthéon-Sorbonne. He also studied at the University of Pennsylvania to gain an LLM.
