Since joining Zurich International in 2005, Marc Monnier has established himself as an in-house lawyer central to its legal operations. He has been active in a number of practice groups within Zurich Insurance Group’s corporate centre legal department, including providing legal advice in a broad range of corporate law, corporate governance and stock exchange regulation related matters. In his first role at the Swiss insurance company, as senior legal counsel corporate center, he was responsible for reviewing, drafting and negotiating share purchase agreements, shareholder agreements, joint venture agreements, transitional services agreements and lead legal due diligence exercises in acquisitions. Considered an unfaltering part of the company, Monnier was the first point of contact for internal restructuring involving cross-border mergers in alignment with the Swiss Merger Act. In 2013, his role changed as he took on the position of senior legal counsel for legal and compliance, which involved providing legal advice on a broad range of matters, largely corporate governance related. Having impressed peers throughout his time at the company, Monnier was selected as Zurich’s general counsel for Switzerland in June 2016.
