About

Nora Teuwsen was appointed general counsel of SBB in 2013, where she is responsible for 80 employees and the group’s legal and compliance management. She joined SBB in 2004 as legal counsel serving the real estate department, one of the leading players in the country’s property sector. Since joining, her role within the company has continued to expand; in 2006 she was appointed deputy head of legal and procurement for the real estate division, taking over the whole responsibility for the legal and procurement department; and in 2007 became a member of the division’s executive management team. In 2012, she was appointed deputy group general counsel. She has integrated the divisional legal departments and the compliance office into one function with approximately 80 employees. Her success at building a high performance team has not gone unnoticed with one nominator stating, ‘she shaped the legal department and made a highly motivated team out of the individuals. She restructured the department to be more effective and a business enabler. She moves ahead with legal tech. Is always alert and has the talent to get the right people in the right position’. She has additionally implemented a group-wide compliance management system (CMS), including a risk matrix and action plan based on an in-depth analysis. One of the most important transactions she’s taken part in includes an M&A deal regarding the founding of SwissSign, a joint venture between SBB and Swiss Post, with considerable contribution towards developing electronic ID for Switzerland. In 2015 she was elected to the management committee of the Institute of law and legal practice from the University of St. Gallen. Since 2017 she has been a member of the board of directors of an energy company. She is also a member of various associations including the Swiss Management Association, the Swiss Bar Association, the Swiss Association of Corporate Counsel, the Association of Corporate Counsel and the Mont-Blanc-Circle, a European general counsel’s network.
