About

Mark Wegmüller started off as legal counsel in the legal department of the SBB passenger traffic, a division that ensures 1.2 million SBB customers gain access to public transport easily and conveniently. Whilst still undertaking this role, he completed an executive master’s in European and international business law. In 2009, he was then promoted to his current position as head of legal and compliance of SBB passenger traffic. Together with his team he is responsible for the legal affairs of the passenger traffic division of SBB, which entails dealing with large procurement transactions, cooperation and distribution agreements with business partners and M&A transactions. Over the years he has had many career highlights, including experience of high complexity transactions, comprehensive procurement projects and challenging contract negotiations, as well as comprehensive legal proceedings. ‘These projects and transactions are handled in interdisciplinary committed teams and it is satisfying to find effective and feasible solutions’, says Wegmüller. He continues to keep up with the continuous developments in legal technology which present challenges for in-house legal departments. For this reason, he makes it a priority to have a high-level of market and business knowledge, combined with a broad functional knowledge, allowing him to understand and know the business environment thoroughly. He continues to cooperate closely with the management and business, something he views as ‘crucial’ in order to provide efficient solutions to issues and questions raised by the management team and to become an indispensable part of the business.
