EMEA general counsel, EMEA data protection officer | Acer Europe
Guido Wennemer
EMEA general counsel, EMEA data protection officer | Acer Europe
EMEA general counsel, head of data protection and compliance | Acer
After working at an international law firm and then as legal counsel in BASF’s global headquarters, Wennemer moved to Acer in Switzerland as senior legal counsel in 2010. Four years later he was appointed as EMEA general counsel. His past experience in private practice was beneficial to his current role, as working within an M&A department taught him to work under pressure with tight timelines and long hours. Adding to what has shaped him professionally, he says, ‘at BASF I was integrated into the world of in-house by an extremely thorough and perfectly organised legal department and company’. Bringing this experience to his current role, he has been able to implement changes such as the increased use of technology, introducing e-billing, a contract management tool, as well as setting up an antitrust compliance programme. Wennemer takes pride in having created a function which adds true value: ‘Overall, the legal department has gained structure and influence within Acer, without slowing down the business’.
